We travel from Puna side because my kids absolutely Love and Trust Dr. Mead. It’s Always a Great experience. Unfortunately, We need to figure out some new insurance options because my kids don’t want to go to any other dentist. They have had awful experiences everywhere else. However with Dr. Mead, they have zero anxiety, which puts this Mom at ease very happy.

My first visit to Orchid Dental on a referral from a friend. The hygienist (Joanne) took care of me first & took the time to explain everything she was doing & why. She did her cleaning with an ultrasonic scaler & hand scaled some areas. The dentist (Dr. Mead) was very thorough & answered all my questions & even took a second look at an area I thought needed to be looked at. Both had a gentle touch & made my experience (1st appt post-pandemic!) very pleasant! The front desk provided me estimates on the follow up procedures that were recommended & was able to schedule the subsequent appointments on the spot & print everything out for me. I was impressed by the courtesy & professionalism of the whole staff!

Apart from an Insurance issue which they rectified, HMSA was at fault, my visit was flawless. Joanne is my go to hygienist but I had to rebook because of my insurance and Lindsey filled in superbly. Dr. Mead answered all my questions and made me feel Comfortable with my transition from my pervious dentist!

I have been lucky to be treated by Dr Mead and his team several times. Dr Mead is a talented, compassionate dentist who uses all the current technologies to make your experience actually pleasant. His assistants are welcoming and also up to date with current crown 3D printing technology. Crown preparation and placement takes place in less than two hours, the patient relaxing for the majority of the visit. The entire office has views of the ocean, is sparkling clean, and has a new air filtration system to minimize virus transmission. Best dental experience ever.

The only way that Orchid Isle Dental could surpass their standards is to offer free beer and hot dogs after each appointment!!!

Friendly staff, thorough cleaning!

I was really impressed with the attention to detail that both the hygienist and dentist had and they are really great with nervous anxious patients. The only reason for not giving them a fifth star is that they don’t take the type of dental insurance that most mainland dentists will take. If they did there would be five stars.

I showed up really late but they were still willing to see me! The dental hygienist was so kind and friendly and makes me feel comforted and nurtured. Dr Meade is a great dentist and very understanding and reassuring. I plan to keep going to Orchid Isle for a long time to come!

Always friendly , from receptionist to hygienist to Dr Meade. Not a fan of going to the dentist office but this office is different and I don’t mind going at all and we drive 1 1/2 to our appointments.

My daughter is 4 years old. I have taken her to other dentists where she has refused to open her mouth and cried the whole time. In fact, the last time I took her was February 2022. I was surprised at how well she reacted to Joann and Dr. Mead at our recent visit in June 2022. Just 4 months ago she wouldn’t let anyone near her. But at Orchid Isle Dental my daughter was able to sit nicely by herself, take 6+ X-rays of her teeth, let Dr. Mead conduct his exam, and do a full cleaning without crying or fighting. She was very good at following directions as well. Definitely not what I was expecting from her. It was clear that she felt comfortable and happy with staff and it turned what is usually a terrifying and traumatizing experience into one that she now enjoys. Thank you!!!

My hygienist was so personable and relatable; which made me very relaxed. She did an awesome job of gently doing x-rays and cleaning of my teeth. Dr. Mead answered questions that I had and explained what my x-rays showed. I also loved that they have this device to help scan for signs of cancer in your mouth. Always have had pleasant experiences at Orchid Isle Dental. My dental hygienist has always been gentle and very thorough. My teeth feel so much cleaner and smooth when I leave. I’ve gotten thorough exams from the hygienist, who thoroughly describes anything she sees. And both Dr. Mead and Dr. Nakahara have been great - gentle, thorough and friendly. I have well used, well cared for teeth, I have had 6 month checkups for about 60 years (since I have had teeth), have a mouthful of fillings I attribute to lack of fluoride when young. I’ve been to at least 10 dental clinics in my life (moved a lot), I’ve always asked around to find the best dentist before trying a new clinic. I rate Orchid Isle as one of the very best I’ve ever had.

Absolute best dentist on island! I’ve been to more than a dozen dentists as a child & adult here on the Big Island over the last 35 years and both Dr. Mead & Dr. Nakahara including all staff are skilled, knowledgeable, professional, polite, thorough, and caring towards your oral health. I was having debilitating tooth pain/headache for days and could not find a dentist in Hilo who would see me until months in the future (besides walk in a Bay Clinic, which I’ve had terrible experiences with because they’re the only clinic that takes Quest Insurance). I walked in to inquire about treatment and they squeezed me in that day. I’ve had no pain or problems with my extractions years ago. Dentists and staff goes above and beyond their call of duty to educate you of your oral health. My gratitude towards Orchid Isle Dental goes beyond the stars! I actually enjoy having my teeth cleaned by Joanne, the dental hygienist at Orchid Isle. Both she and Dr. Meade are genuinely kind and caring professionals. They’re also extremely knowledgeable and willingly share tips on keeping your mouth/teeth healthy. I highly recommend this team of dental professionals.

EVERYONE at Orchid Isle is AWESOME. I have no regrets switching my boys over, they love to go to the dentist now. Both Dr. Nakahara and Dr. Mead has been so awesome and patient with my kids, especially the older one who would cry in the beginning because he had a bad experience before.
